Decorating Small Bathroom

Unlike large bathroom, small bathroom requires special interior design technique to give the room a large look. Though our bathroom may already have major fixtures, such as showers, bathtub, sink and toilet in place, but we can still integrate other elements onto it, to make the existing space looks larger than its original size. We do not have to be pessimistic because the task does not have to be done by professional interior designer. As long as we know how to do it, we will find a larger look from our bathroom.
First thing to do is, we need to incorporate glass elements into our small bathroom because it will help us find a larger amount of the bathroom that makes it look bigger. We also need to replace the show curtain with a clear glass door that will let us see the back of the shower and increasing the perceived depth of the area. If our bathroom is too small to accommodate a swinging door, we can leave a small part of the glass enclosure open to be an entryway and reposition the head of the shower to make sure that it does not spray water near the opening.
Mirrors do not allow us to see the solid wall behind, so we need to place it along one wall. We need to know that when our eyes are unable to see the wall, our brain will think that the space behind the mirrors is infinite. That is why this step would help us open the bathroom space by reflecting other features. It is a good decision if we try to cover the entire wall with mirrors, or use a large size mirror over the sink.
Because we do not have a large space, so we need to incorporate decorative details into the existing stuffs. We can place a sink and vanity combination with complex details or a floating edged glass countertop with a unique sink to bring a more decorative element to the bathroom. Another way to add decorative detail to the bathroom is by using colorful tile along the shower wall. This step will not spend a large amount of the room and it is enough to give a larger look on our bathroom. Remember, one of the keys we need to remember is, we cannot place too much stuffs in a small bathroom because it will just make the space narrower and too crowded.

Choose Your Best Bathroom Flooring

There are many options of bathroom flooring that you can choose to install the new or replace the existing one. If you are dealing with the home renovation project, it is also important to invest a little effort to consider the most hidden area. It is the bathroom. Though it is hidden, you may find your guests like friends or relatives need to use the restroom. So, make sure they get the positive impression once checking what you have inside.

Selecting the bathroom flooring needs more special considerations compared to other rooms’. It should not only look beautiful, but also durable and importantly friendly moisture. The floor must offer the comfort to kids with their bare feet. Tiles are the most preferred option by the homeowners, but actually, you have more options, like:

  • Solid hardwood – looks great and feels warm under the foot. Unfortunately, it is not too resistant towards moisture. You need professional installation work done to create no gaps for moisture.
  • Carpet – a bad choice, but still possible with some pointers to consider during the installation.
  • Engineered wood – works better the solid one as it holds up well against the moisture. This flooring consists of plywood base and real wood layer.
  • Laminate flooring – has a photograph as the surface that stimulates wood’s look, for example slate, oak, cherry and marble. The use of seaming glue prevents the moisture to go downward.
  • Sheet or tile vinyl – great option for DIY project where you can find various styles to choose from.
  • Stone – offers the benefit of moisture resistance. There are limestone, granite, marble and others. However, the stone can be slippery and cold. Get the one textured by sandblasting or buy the naturally textured stone.
  • Ceramic tile – best option among of the others. It has rich, textured and rich feeling. It does not cost too expensive too. The ceramic material is waterproof and quite beautiful.
Bathroom is not only an area to clean yourself. If you have a bathtub, you can enjoy the home spa when you are able to relax and tempt your body. Supported with the perfect ambiance in the room, you should not always to waste the money heading to the local recreational spots. But beauty is not the main aspect to consider about the restroom. You need to use the right materials, especially for the bathroom flooring, that are safe, moisture-proof, eco-friendly and stain-resistant.

Bathroom Renovations For A Small Budget

Renovating a bathroom can cost a fortune. Turning your embarrassingly outdated 30-year-old bathroom into a state-of-the-art restroom with luxury fixtures can cost over $20,000. Even a renovation that is much less extensive and luxurious can exceed $10,000 in expenses. If you wish to spend half of that amount or less, it's necessary to trim your expectations and target your improvements.

However, there are ways to significantly improve the look and function of your bathroom without spending a large amount of money. Here are five tips for doing a brilliant bathroom renovation on a modest budget.

1. Re-tile with restraint. If the tiles used in the bathroom floor and on the walls of the bathtub area need to be replaced, approach the project cautiously. High quality tiles are costly, as is professional installation. If at all possible, do the installation yourself. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that provide detailed instructions. Also, use low-cost tiles for most of the area, saving the expensive tiles for use as accents (singles or rows).

2. Instead of replacing your chipped and/or stained bathtub, install a new acrylic liner. This has emerged as a viable option in recent years, as the quality of the heavy gauge acrylic liners on the market has improved. The liner is installed directly on top of your existing tub, instantly covering up all the flaws and creating a clean, fresh surface. While these liners are not cheap, this project can be completed for a fraction of the cost of purchasing and installing a new bathtub.

3. Focus on minor fixtures. Replacing ugly or damaged light fixtures, towel racks, and drawer pulls with stylish contemporary items can improve the overall look of your bathroom for a relatively small cost. Find top quality fixtures that look great and will stay that way for many years.

4. Purchase a granite countertop with imperfections. Granite countertops are currently very popular, but they are also very expensive - especially if the counter area in your bathroom is large. One way to save money is to hunt for a granite slab that has imperfections. Remember that the imperfections may be a non-issue of they're located in areas that will be cut out for the basin or dispensers. You can also reduce the overall cost of a granite slab by choosing a color that is not in high demand.

5. Apply a new coat of paint. This basic improvement is often overlooked when the room in question is the bathroom. Here, just as with any other part of the house, painting is a great way to quickly and inexpensively improve the appearance of the room. Choose a high quality paint with a satin finish, and be very careful when painting around the many fixtures.

You don't need to set aside a huge amount of money to renovate your bathroom. A modest budget, if spent on targeted improvements, can result in a stylish new look. Be sure to do extensive research before deciding what to replace or update, and where possible do the actual renovation work yourself.
