Creating Bedroom Furniture Layout

It may seem simple to place bedroom furniture in the room and be done, there is more things to do to make the bedroom comfortable than that. We have to realize that a good layout room allows us to move freely and brings us easy access to reach everything we need. A well layout transforms our bedroom into a retreat space we cannot wait to relax in.

Here are some tips on how to layout our bedroom furniture:
  1. Plan where we want to place our bed. This is to create the focal point of the bedroom. It is better to place bed along one wall or sit angled, but we have to make sure that we give access to both sides of the bed by placing the foot of the bed facing the entryway.
  2. On each side of the bed, we can place a nightstand. On each of the nightstands, we have to place a lamp. It gives symmetrical and functional look. Do not forget to place an alarm clock on one of the tables.
  3. It is better to place an upholstered chair, lounge or small love seat in a corner or out-of-the-way area. Such furniture gives us access to have a relaxed nook in the room for reading or dressing. If we still have a space, we can place a floor lamp or side tale next to it.
  4. To give a more beautiful look, we can add textural items, such as curtains, rugs, sheet sets, etc. We can also make a theme such as floral prints or shades of beige.
  5. If we have artwork or photographs, we can place it on one or two walls in the bedroom. But we have to remember that a wall décor should have approximately two-thirds of the available space. If we place a small piece on a large portion of a wall, or vice versa, it can make the bedroom look off balance.
  6. Place any armoires or dressers in the bedroom along a wall where they would not break up any lines of traffic. As well as possible, we have to make sure that there is no crowded wall, where everything places in the same area.
  7. Last thing to remember, we need to make sure that all bedroom furniture we have are suitable with the wall color. They do not have to be the same, because good color combination will exactly bring a great comfort.

Tips on Small Bedroom Decoration

Small bedroom decoration should be much simple. You have limited space to work on. However, when you need more items, it is tough to decide which ones to take inside. The basic furniture to have is usually including the bed, dressing table and chair. It is too simple that you can feel boring. The solution needed is thinking how to decor the small bedroom right.

A bedroom is the best room in the house. The surrounding decoration should be comfortable enough to help the body and mind of the owner relax. As it is yours, you can decide how the room looks. Add the touch of your personal taste to get the best room style you always dream about. If you wonder what to do with the small bedroom decoration project, here are some tips to help:
  • Use the bed as the focal point. When you enter your bedroom, your eyes must directly focus on the bed. You want to lay on there and relax. Make it look stand out among of the other furniture items in the room like by arranging the bold pillows. If you place the bed close to the window, you should choose to dress up the bed or the window.
  • Do not use too many dressers. Consider to store your personal belongings in different ways. It is better to hang up most of the clothes, while the undergarments are placed in a small cabinet or storage container in the closet. Minimize the number of your clothes by donating the unworn ones.
  • Place a small chair and table as the dresser. A sturdy table is recommended as it can do double task as a desk and hold the dressing needs.
  • Choose light color to paint the walls. It will create the illusion of wider room. If you want to use wallpaper, make sure the pattern is drawn horizontally.
  • Pick linens with the subtle patterns. To strengthen the bed as the focal point, you can use a bedcover with neutral hue and throw pillows with bright contrasting colors.
  • Consider about the lighting. Let the natural sunlight in through the glass window. If you want it breezy, you can add light curtains with neutral color.
It does not take much time to decor a small bedroom. You can also use some tricks to make it look more spacious like using mirrors, leaving the floor bare and hanging wall shelves to store your books. Besides needing limited number of item, the small bedroom decoration does not require much investment too

Bedroom Wallpapering Idea to Create Your Actual Personality Expression

Bedroom wallpapering is one of simplest ideas to decorate your private room. It is an alternative choice when you have no time to work on conventional painting project. Wallpapers offer mess and stress free solution. You do not need to bother yourself with the mixing work and even spoil the paint accidently. The most essential materials you need are the wallpapers and the glue.

Bedroom is a private area that should reflect much about the owner’s personality. However, hectic atmosphere seems to be an improper idea because you need to feel the room airy, calm and relaxing. That is why you do not need complicated interior design. Selecting the right wallpaper can create the exact statement or ambiance that you want at the most. If you are bored with the same tone of conventional paint that has no decorative accent at all, the wallpaper is the quick idea to make an instant impact and renew the room’s look. Even so, the bedroom wallpapering cost can vary, depending on the materials, styles and colors. When you are intended to buy a roll or two, you also need to consider about how the room is used at the most. Do you also use it as home office or just a room for relaxing? Making the decision to choose the best one to express your actual personality is probably tough, especially if you are new in this work. Here are some common styles that may inspire you to make the final option:
  • Delicate damasks and floral with fine lines in muted, pastel colors are suitable to a romantic personality.
  • Go with faux finishes like beadboard and stucco if you love being casual and simple. Create the more relaxing ambiance with the organic, flowing floral designs.
  • Bold geometrics with high gloss and metallic accents are also good for contemporary or fashion forward.
  • If you love being traditional, you can mix intricate damasks and stripes with the traditionally furnishings and decors.
Depending on how large the room is, you may have to think about using the professional help. The decorator won’t only work to install the wallpapers. He or she does the project from the beginning by preparing the wall first like checking the holes or uneven parts and getting all areas free of debris. If you really have time and want to save some, you should consider working on the bedroom wallpapering project yourself.

How to Plan Your Children's Bedrooms

Your children spend a lot of time in their bedrooms, so it's important that they are comfortable, able to relax, and be themselves. Kids of all ages have ideas about décor, so consult with them as you plan their bedrooms. Look at pictures on the internet and in magazines, and pick out the best points of children's bedrooms that take your fancy.

Design by beth keim, owner lucy and company, photo by mekenzie france

As You Plan
• What are you child's needs? Take into consideration age, interests, color preferences, schoolwork requirements.
• Which way does the room face? A cold room needs warm colors, for example, red or yellow. A room that is hot during summer requires cool colors such as blue or green.
• How big is the room? Don't cram it full of furniture as children need adequate floor space for play.
• Do your kids have to share a room? There are plenty of delightful bunk beds available, or use room dividers like bookcases.

Safety
Choose furniture that has no sharp edges or corners at a kid's eye level. In addition, freestanding furniture should be stable so that it won't tumble over if climbed upon.
It may be obvious, but make sure that all furniture and fittings are painted with lead-free and nontoxic paint.
If your child likes to have a night light, use a dimmer switch on the central room light rather than have a trailing electrical flex to a lamp.

Floor Coverings
Kids spend a lot of time on the floor. There are many types of floor coverings on the market, and the best choice for a child's room is something that is easy to clean and will not stain.
Loose nonslip mats add warmth to tiles or vinyl. Buy a rug with a fun theme that ties in with your child's interests. If you're working to a strict budget, carpet off-cuts are ideal, especially if they are odd shapes and colors!

Furniture
A bed is a long-term investment, so ensure that you buy the best you can afford. It should be sturdy and comfortable. One that converts from a toddler bed to one that an elementary school child can sleep in is ideal. Choose a neutral color so that it will fit any décor style, and get a bed that is easy to make.
An essential in children's bedrooms is storage, so take care that there are enough cupboards, drawers and chests. A wheeled drawer that fits under the bed is a good idea as it gives easy access to toys. In addition, adjustable shelves can be moved up as your child grows.

Soft Furnishings
There is a vast array of ready-made curtains in stores, in many colors and styles. If you decide to make your own, you can keep costs down by using inexpensive fabric such as heavy-duty sheeting or plain colored cotton. You can tie-dye, decorate with fabric paint (get your children to help with this project), or trim with rick-rack or braid.

Color coordinate your curtains, duvet covers, and casual pillows in various shades and patterns. Don't skimp on curtaining as nothing looks worse than curtains that only just cover the window when they are drawn.
Enjoy planning your children's bedrooms, and use it as an opportunity for high-quality fun time with your kids!
